Janko Tipsarevic destroys Alex Bogomolov Jr in final-four match – St. Petersburg Open 2011

Second seeded Serb, Janko Tipsarevic destroyed seventh seeded American, Alex Bogomolov Jr. in their semi-final match at the 2011 St. Petersburg Open on Saturday, 29th October in St. Petersburg, Russia. In a match that
lasted only seventy seven minutes, Tipsarevic was quick to secure an easy breezy 6-2, 6-1 win to move into his second straight final on tour.
The pair had played only once before seven years ago in Tokyo when the American had edged 1-0 in the lead in their head-to-head score. However, seven years later the in-form Serb had avenged his loss and brought the score to even
terms.
Tipsarevic kicked off the opener and met with little resistance as he went 2-1 in the lead winning on his serve. However, things started to heat up from the fourth game as the pair exchanged a series of breaks. Two from the Serb
and one from the American put Tipsarevic 4-2 in the lead. Holding serve in the seventh game, Tipsarevic once more broke Bogomolov to clinch a 6-2 win in the first set, going one up in the set score.
With no aces and two double faults, Bogomolov succumbed to the mighty Serb who registered an opposite on the scoreboard with two aces and no double faults. With a 64 percent win on first serve and a 71 percent on his second serve,
Tipsarevic clinched 31 points to the American’s 20 as he took the lead in the set score.
The 2-6 defeat had perhaps broken the American’s confidence as he failed to make any headway in the second set. With back-to-back breaks in the second and fourth game coupled with successful holds on his own, Tipsarevic was able
to go 5-0 in the lead completely destroying the American veteran. The Serb eventually served out the set at 5-1, sealing his straight sets victory.
With a title win at Moscow in the Kremlin Cup last week, Tipsarevic now looks for two for two in Russia as he moves into his second straight final. Meeting the Serb in the final will be the top ranked Croat and fourth seed here,
Marin Cilic. The Croat moved into the title match after he ousted local favourite and fifth seed Mikhail Youzhny in straight sets in their semi-final match on the same day.
