Janko Tipsarevic destroys Michael Berrer in second round – Legg Mason Tennis Classic 2011
Serbian world No.25, Janko Tipsarevic grabbed his chair in the 3rd round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic winning his 2nd rounder here on Thursday, 4th August. Beating the German, Michael Berrer, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 the Serbian blistered the 2nd rounder with mere intricacy. The match was played at the William H.G. Fitzgerald Tennis Centre in Rock Creek Park on hard court.
Tipsarevic has already been in fierce rivalry with the German as they played their 6th head to head match here on Thursday. The 27-year-old climbed the winners’ podium with a mesmerising performance blistering the 31-year-old German in no time.
Challenging the 27-year-old, Michael Berrer, had a tough time returning the world No.25. Out of the 6 fixtures played between the two, Berrer won only two and lost 4 including today’s match. The left handed gigantic German, 6’4”, had a rock solid defence ahead of him that he could not break even once.
The match kicked off with the Serbian opening for the match and rolled the scorecard 1-0. The first breakpoint came in game 2 of the first set when Tipsarevic dismantled the 31-year-old with lightening fast reflexes. Increasing his lead to 3-0, the 27-year-old World No.25 retained his lead to win the set 6-3 and led the match 1-0.
Tipsarevic secured 32 points including 20 service points and 12 returners. The Serbian aced the German 3 times in the set and put forward a rock solid defence that could not be broken even once.
Berrer got the same pounding in the second set as well. Starting the set he was immediately broken down by the Serbian and lost the first game. Tipsarevic won the following game to increase his lead to 2-0 that he maintained throughout the set.
Even in the second set Berrer could not break the Serbians defence. On the other hand, the world No.25 needed one breakpoint to secure his win over the German. Mainly Tipsarevic won his points from his first serves with an 85 percent ratio. Totalling 39 points, the 27-year-old secured 20 service points and 19 returners.
The 39 points in the second set added to 32 in the first totalling 71 points overall in the Serbian win. Tipsarevic is now the third seed in the Legg Mason Tennis Classic as he sits in the 3rd round to play the winner of the match between Grigor Dimitrov, the Bulgarian and Michael Llodra of France.
