Janko Tipsarevic ousts Jeremy Chardy in round two – Roland Garros 2012
Eighth seeded Janko Tipsarevic dumped the local challenger, Jeremy Chardy, in straight sets at the French Open 2012 on Thursday. He summed up a 7-6(4), 6-1, 7-5 victory against the 25-year-old to cruise into the third round at
this clay court Grand Slam event held in Paris, France.
The Serbian ace tumbled over the world number 55 after displaying exceptional skills in their fifth meeting. After earning the success in two hours and 34 minutes, Tipsarevic not only extended his lead in the FedEx ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) Head 2 Head series by 4-1 against the French but also booked a place in the round of 32.
The 27-year-old made a slow entry at the Court number Two and after suffering the first blow in the sixth game, he went 2-5 down. However, Tipsarevic stayed calm and grasped his break back in the ninth game to get back in contention.
The set went to the tie-breaker where the Serb prevailed and carved out the victory with a 7-6(4) score line.
Tipsarevic unleashed his true form in the second set and jumped to a 3-0 lead after earning the coveted break in the second game. After Chardy held his serve in the fourth game, the Serb maintained his intensity and pocketed the
last three games to seal the set with a breadstick. He successfully fended off the lone breakpoint faced and converted one out of three break chances to his advantage.
Ranked eighth in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Tipsarevic carried his winning ways in the third set and held his opening serve to level the scores at 1-1. He continued plucking his serves until he earned the
critical break in the seventh game and put his nose ahead. Apart from losing his edge in the very next game, the Serb stayed focused and got the breakthrough in the 11th game. Tipsarevic warded away one out of two breakpoints he faced and capitalised
on two out of three break chances to formulate a 7-5 win.
Next in queue for the beaming Serb is the 29th seeded local contender, Julien Benneteau, who took down Russia’s Dimitrov Tursunov in straight sets to set up this meeting.
