Janko Tipsarevic ousts Juan Carlos Ferrero to reach the quarterfinal – US Open 2011

Ranked twentieth in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Rankings, Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia, stood tall against the former world number one, Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain, in the fourth round of the US Open on Monday
afternoon.
The 20th seed Serb took three hours and forty three minutes of play to dispose of the unseeded Spaniard in four sets, 7-5, 6-7(3), 7-5, 6-2, after some stiff contest to book a berth in the quarter-final draws of the
last Grand Slam tournament of the current year.
The contest took place on the outdoor hard court of the Louis Armstrong Stadium of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park, of Queens, New York City, United States, with the 20th seed
Tipsarevic getting through to his first Grand Slam quarter-final.
Tipsarevic finally avenged his prior defeats from the Spaniard, who defeated him twice in Grand Slam championships before. Ferrero dumped the Serb in the second round of the Australian Open back in 2006 and then again in the round
of 16 at Wimbledon in 2007. Tipsarevic appeared a far better and more aggressive player this time round and registered his 39th victory of the running ATP season to cut the head-to-head deficit against the Spaniard by 1-2.
“I’m really happy, but I’m more happy that my goal of being Top 20 at the end of the year is happening,” said 27-year-old Tipsarevic in his post match reviews. “I feel really, really lucky that I made a big change at the beginning
of this year and things started to pay off almost immediately. It wasn’t a pretty beginning of the year, but I’m doing things right and things are paying off. I’m more happy about that than playing quarter-finals.”
The Serb delivered 63 per cent of his serve on target and fired 20 cracking aces in the matchup, along with 54 winners to come out as the winner. Ferrero was led down by his error-ridden game, as the Spaniard coughed 39 unforced
errors, including eight costly double faults, to finish the matchup on the losing side in the end.
Tipsarevic converted four out of his 10 break opportunities in the contest and successfully defended the only two serve breaks he faced from the Spanish opponent. The Serb will take on his fellow compatriot, the world number one,
Novak Djokovic, in the quarter-final clash to battle for a place in the semi-finals of the US Open.
