Janko Tipsarevic outlasts Juan Monaco to reach quarters – BNP Paribas Masters 2012
Serbian number two, Janko Tipsarevic, battled past the ninth seed, Juan Monaco from Argentina, in a three-set thriller at the BNP Paribas Masters 2012 on Thursday. He summed up a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory against the Argentinean number two to progress into the
quarter-finals at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in France.
Seeded eighth in this event, Tipsarevic swayed from the right path in the second set. However, he stayed calm eventually sealed the deal in two hours and 14 minutes. After earning the fame in their fourth meeting, the Serb extended his lead in the FedEx
ATP (Association of Tennis professionals) Head 2 Head Series by 3-1 against Monaco and reached the last eight.
Tipsarevic assertively entered this ATP Masters 1000 event taking place from 27th October to 4th November. He swiftly bagged his entire serves and got the breakthrough in the sixth game, eventually recording a 6-3 success. The Serb
was never challenged with any barrier and cashed the lone break opportunity to inch towards his goal.
The world number 10 re-focused in the proceeding set. He got the critical break in the sixth game and leaped to a 5-2 lead. Monaco slid his serve once more and pulled out the equaliser with a 6-3 score line. He brushed off the only breakpoint he faced and
took advantage of the lone break opportunity.
Ranked ninth in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Tipsarevic sought his early momentum in the final set which matter the most. He required a single break opportunity in the sixth game to get the breakthrough and clinch the decider with a
6-3 score line. Mustering his performance further, the Serb was never threatened with any breakpoint and ruled throughout the set.
Tipsarevic will square off against the Polish qualifier, Jerzy Janowicz, who stunned third seeded Andy Murray, in mouth-watering three sets to set up this battle. The pole dropped his serve twice but cashed half of the six break chances to formulate a 5-7,
7-6(4), 6-2 victory. He also hammered 22 aces and impressively availed 54 out of 65 points on his first serve share.
