Janko Tipsarevic pumped up for a medal at Olympics – Tennis News
World number eight, Janko Tipsarevic, is a classy player with all the fancy goggles in his closet. He can surprise anyone on his day and can be a mere spectator to an underdog on another occurrence. So, anything can be expected
of the 28-year-old Serb who is going to battle it out for the gold medal at London Olympics, later this month.
Tipsarevic had a very hectic season. He has been playing throughout the year and maintaining his number eight spot in the world rankings. He started his campaign at Chennai and ended up losing the final to the Canadian number one,
Milos Raonic. He was the top seed player so it would have been a disappointing beginning to the season.
The Serb is seen in the quarter-final and semi-final stage of most of the tournament he contests. He lost in the semi-final of Open 13 at Marseille and than in the quarter-final of the Dubai Duty Free Championships. Another quarter-final
exit in the Sony Ericsson Open was followed by a similar round departure in Barcelona.
He was the semi-finalist at the Mutua Madrid Open and won the Power Horse World Team Championships at Dusserdolf, just before the start of the year’s second Grand Slam Championship at Paris, the Roland Garros French Open. He did
well in France and reached the fourth round of the tournament but was outclassed by the inferior ranked Spaniard, Nicolas Almagro.
Consistent performance in AEGON Championships and Wimbledon at London sustained her rankings whilst the Top-3 players were jolted for the first time in a year. Tipsarevic won his second title in the Mercedes Cup at Stuttgart and
is now comfortably placed in the quarter-finals of the Credit Agricole Suisse Open, contested in Gstaad. He is on a five match winning streak at the moment but all these battles were contested as the top seed player.
Talking about the Olympics, Tipsarevic said, “However, the Olympics are really important for me because I am not representing myself; I am representing my country. As you may know, I usually play very well when it’s a team competition
so that makes it even more exciting for me and it would obviously be great to win a medal either in singles or doubles (I am playing with Nenad Zimonjic). I have to say that at this stage in my career and having made it into the top 10, for me, if I cannot
win a medal.”
Let’s hope he surprises the world by winning a medal in London.
