Janko Tipsarevic reins over Flavio Cipolla to win the 2nd round – Malaysian Open 2011
Janko Tipsarevic, Serbian, pulled off the 2nd round win against  Italian, Flavio Cipolla, at the Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. Playing the final match for the day, Thursday, 29th September, Tipsarevic,
seeded No.3, hammered the Italian world No.96, 6-2, 6-4, in an hour and 34 minutes to walk off into the quarter-final of the Malaysian Open 2011.
The two 27-year-old counterparts battled it out hard; however, it seemed more of a one-sided game. Tipsarevic, world No. 17, although has dropped in the rankings, yet the Italian was a job well done for him.
Winning the service toss, the Serbian went on serving out the first game of the match and suddenly ignited. Breaking the Italian in a sneak attack, Tipsarevic forehanded a splendid down-the-line shot to captivate over the 27-year-old
rival.
Serving out game 3, the Serbian world No.17 extended his lead to 3-0 before the Italian scores his first game winning game 4, 1-3. Cipolla captivated a breakpoint cutting down the lead to 3-2, however, could not gain advantage
of the breakpoint and dropped short as Tipsarevic broke back the next instant, 4-2.
With the Serbian serving out game 7, the world No.17 was left with one more game to bag the first set. Hitting a cross-court backhand, Tipsarevic broke through the Italian wall and bagged the first set winning 6-2.
With one set in his bag, the Serbian moved on to serve the 2nd set starter. Serving out game 1, the 27-year-old took the lead, 1-0. Following the world No.17, Cipolla levelled up the scores, 1-1, and switched the serve
back. With a greater defence and offence by both the players, none could break each other in the starting few games.
Levelling up at 2-2 and at 3-3 the two stood equal again at 4-4 with Tipsarevic to serve next for game 9. Surprisingly, the Italian world No.96 had put forward a great deal of opposition against the Serbian world No.17. However,
Cipolla could not captivate over the higher ranked rival and fell short losing a breakpoint of game 10 and lost the second set as well.
Winning the second set, 6-4, Tipsarevic pocketed the match 2-0 to make his way into the quarter-final round ending the second stage matches of the ATP Tour 250 event. The third seed will now play the fifth seed, Nikolay Davydenko
to battle it out for a spot in the semi-final.
