Eighth seed, Janko Tipsarevic from Serbia, took down the Dutch qualifier, Igor Sijsling, in straight sets at the BNP Paribas Masters 2012 on Wednesday. He jolted down a 6-4, 7-6(0) success over the 25-year-old to progress into the third round at the Palais
Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in France.
The Serbian number two unveiled his true colours at this indoor hard court event, subsequently pulling out the victory in one hour and 47 minutes. Encountering each other for the first time, Tipsarevic edged in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
Head 2 Head Series by 1-0 against the world number 75 and progressed into the round of 16 with poise.
Tipsarevic made a strong entry at this ATP Masters 1000 event taking place from 27th October to 4th November. He drew the first blood in the fifth game and jumped to a 4-2 lead. Apart from levelling the scores in the eighth game, the
Serb maintained his intensity and broke his opponent’s serve in the very next game. He held his serve once again and bagged the opener with a 6-4 win.
The world number nine, Tipsarevic kept momentum rolling in the following set. He slid his serves until he got the desiderated break in the ninth game and put his nose ahead for the first time in this set. Despite squandering a chance of serving out the set,
the Serb stayed calm and took the set to a tie-breaker. He went berserk in it and after reeling off all points, Tipsarevic clinched the set with a 7-6(0) score line.
Bidding for his second year-to-date title, Tipsarevic spilled more double faults and hammered fewer aces. However, he stayed on course after producing a better first serve share of 56 per cent as compared to the Ditch’s 45 per cent. The Serb also magnificently
availed 30 out of 37 points on it and ended the match with 86 points.
Tipsarevic will square off against the ninth seed, Juan Monaco. The Argentinean number one triumphed over the Bulgarian qualifier, Grigor Dimitrov, in straight sets to set up this outing. He broke his rival’s serve twice and kept his entire serves, eventually
sealing the deal with a 7-6(4), 6-2 score line.
