Janko Tipsarevic wins a quarter-final seat; beats Ivan Dodig in straight sets – Rogers Cup 2011
Janko Tipsarevic, made it to the quarter-final of the 2011 Rogers Cup after beating 26-year-old Croatian, Ivan Dodig in straight sets. Playing at the Stade Uniprix Centre, Montreal, the two collided in a one hour ten minutes match
resulting in a 1-6, 4-6 loss for the Croatian. Janko was the last entry in the quarter-final round of the ATP Masters 1000 event.
Dodig, formerly the world No.37 played a disproportionate match this Thursday, against the world No.24, Tipsarevic. Although he was expected to soar, the Croatian got an unpredictable beating from the 27-year-old. Dodig formerly
made his way to the 3rd round knocking out world number two, Rafael Nadal. This might have made the better raise their bets, however, eventually proved to be a loss.
On the contrary, the unprecedented Serbian dominated the match hitting strong forehands and un-returnable aces to his victory. Another advantage that the Serbian had was the hard court. Tipsarevic has played seven of his last ten
matches on hard court, getting good practice of them. Countryman to the world No.1, Novak Djokovic, Tipsarevic added another head-to-head win against the Croatian after his win here.
Kicking off with the match, the Serbian served to open the first set and the scorecard, 1-0. Serving with 50 percent accuracy in the first set Tipsarevic won and amazing 91 percent of his first serve points in the set. Breaking
his rival twice in the set, in game 4 and game 5, the 27-year-old clinched a 6-1 win over his challenger in less than thirty minutes.
Out of the seven games played in the first set, Tipsarevic served four of them and returned three securing 16 service and 12 return points totalling a 28 point win.
The second set started off with the 26-year-old Croatian taking the first set out, 1-0. Following with a win on respective serve, Tipsarevic won the next set and levelled the scores 1-1. The scores went on respectively until the
Serbian broke his challenger in game 9 leading on to a 6-4 in the second set.
With an even better performance that the first set, Tipsarevic 100 percent points of his first serve and broke the Croatian at a very crucial point. Winning 20 service points and 10 returners, the 27-year-old world No.24 totalled
30 points to his win.
Tipsarevic totalled 58 points in his 3rd round win against Dodig together with 36 service points and 22 returners. The Serbian now sits in the quarter-finals to face the Czech, Tomas Berdych to battle it out for a seat
in the semis.
