Jankovic, number 1?

Question

Will she get the top ranking this week?

With a weak field in Carson, could she get the win and become number one?

With The William Sisters hurting knees, Sharapova off on a shoot or God knows what she is doing, and Ana not playing ( but why, where is she?), and Kuz out with injury, and Hantuchova losing consistently, and the rest of the top 10, "missing", it certainly appears it can happen. Thoughts?

She defintly doesnt deserve to be number one...just bc you play every tournament and making quaterfinals or better doesnt make you the number one player...and she has only won one title this year

I'd like to know why/where about Ana also. That is more mysterious to us.

Hantuchova seems inconsistent since the beginning. I think she has the goods, but I think she gets nervous winning.

I think that if Jankovic can stay healthy throughout the rest of the season she is poised for the number 1 spot. The williams sisters can't stay consistent enough, sharapova can't figure out her toss, Ana can't handle the pressure of being in the top spot, Kuznetsova won't be healthy enough for the rest of the season, and Hantuchova just doesn't believe she has it in her.

The fact merely consistancy is enough to be world number 1 it says alot about women's tennis at the moment. I love Jelena but this is a girl who is yet to win a Grand Slam. The top 4 in the world are very close at the moment and the World Number will probably change from week to week as there is no clear best mediorce player. Bring back Justine, Kim and Jennifer Capriati!

it indeed is looking quite likely. unless petrova or somebody of a stronger calibre can beat her. but i doubt it.

it could be a great thing for her. she could flourish after such an achievement and win a major finally....or more. it happened to wilander.....then kim clijsters and mauresmo.
