Jankovic/Kuzmanov, Martinavarr/Baena qualify for the Boys’ Doubles semi-final – French Open 2011
Jankovic/Kuzmanov defeat Llamas/Roca Batalla 6-3, 6-2
Serbian/Bulgarian pair of Miki Jankovic and Dimitar Kuzmanov cruised past Axel Alvarez Llamas and Oriol Roca Batalla of Spain in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of boys’ doubles event at French Open, Roland Garros on
Thursday. The Serbian/Bulgarian team needed just 48 minutes to undo their opponents.
Jankovic and Kuzmanov broke their opponents in the eighth game of the opening set and served of the set in the next game, bagging the set 6-3. The Serbian/Bulgarian duo delivered 75 percent of the first serves in the opening set,
claiming 56 percent of the points on them. Jankovic and Kuzmanov did not allow their opponents to win any easy service game as they returned very well, winning 59 percent of the receiving points in the first set. The Serbian/Bulgarian team saved two of the
three break points they faced and converted three of the six break points they received in the opening set.
Carrying the wining momentum into the second set, Jankovic and Kuzmanov broke their opponents in the third and fifth game to capture the set 6-2. The Serbian/Bulgarian pair hit one ace and kept their first serve percentage at 47
percent, claiming 78 percent of the points on the first serve in the second set. The unseeded team kept troubling their opponents with aggressive returns of service, converting 61 percent of the returns into points in the second set.
Jankovic and Kuzmanov will take on Mitchell Krueger and Shane Vinsant of USA in the semi-finals.
Martinavarr/Baena beat Fratangelo/Halebian 6-1, 6-3
Andres Artunedo Martinavarr and Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain thrashed Bjorn Fratangelo and Alexios Halebian of USA in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals. The match lasted for just 48 minutes.
Artunedo Martinavarr and Carballes Baena were almost flawless in the first set as the dropped only one game, breaking their opponents thrice to win the set 6-1. The Spaniards kept their first serve percentage at 59 percent and
bagged 80 percent of the first service points in the opening set. Artunedo Martinavarr and Carballes Baena won three of the five break point chances they received and did not face any break point on their own serve in the opening set.
In the second set, Fratangelo and Halebian showed some resistance but the Americans failed to hold serve in the eighth game and could not break back, losing the set 3-6. Artunedo Martinavarr and Carballes Baena improved their first
serve percentage slightly, hitting 64 percent of the first serves and winning 88 percent of the points on them. The Spanish duo capitalised on one of the two break point opportunities they created in the second set.
Artunedo Martinavarr and Carballes Baena are slated to meet Maxim Dubarenco and Vladyslay Manafov in the semi-finals.
