Janome 1600P DB Stitch length

Question

The stitch length varies from 1/16" to 1/2" while making a single stitch line. I've adjust the tension - it doesn't help. There's nothing in the manual to help with this problem. I use the machine for quilts, generally stitching on cotton fabric. I also clean and oil the machine daily as it gets a lot of use.
