Janome 350e Carriage will not move forward or back

Question

I went to start a new project and noticed I didn't' return the carriage when I finished the last project. It has happen a few times before. When I started machine the carriage made a few strange noises and I was prompted with a warning. I think it stated. Raise needle and foot and restart. Set up new project when I went to hook up the hoop I seen that the carriage was loose? What did I do? I have unplugged my machine and restated with no results. When i went to trace the design the carriage will move to the left and right but not forward or back?
