Janome 9500 Embroidery Issue

Question

I was embroidering one project and completed it. Went to the next and when I pushed trace to ensure it was alined properly the machine would only go left and right not up and down. The machine made the noicse as if was going up and down but never moved. When I pushed the start button the machine never moved the all the embroidery was all in one spot. I ws prompted to lower the Dog Feeder which I did and to no avail, this was no help at all either. Any suggestions?
