Janome Memory Craft 8000 Stepping Motor Error

Question

My Janome Memory Craft 8000 is coming up with 'STEPPING MOTOR ERROR' when I turn it on and is making an awful grinding type noise that seems to be coming out of the arm where you secure the embrodery hoop. Is there any way to fix it as I have rung Janome and they have said no (think they just want me to buy the new one!!)
