Janome mini sewing machine not picking up thread

Question

I have a Janome mini sewing machine which I have only used twice. The machine seems to be working fine except that the bobbin thread does not pick up. I have rethreaded it and changed the needle as well as having the bobbin and casing out to check for dust. I believe that it must be the timing out but cant find how to adjust it myself. I got in touch with Janome who told me to take it to a dealer for repair but as the machine is not very expensive I suspect that the repair would cost more than the machine. I just wondered if I could have a got adjusting it myself.
