Jans-Ignacik/ Rosolska ease past Fichman/ Pelletier into 2nd round – Rogers Cup 2011
Poles Klaudia Jans-Ignacik and Alicja Rosolska trashed local wild card entrants, Sharon Fichman and Marie-Eve Pelletier in straight sets at the Rogers Cup 2011, 122nd edition of the Canadian Open held on the hard courts in Toronto. They registered a 7-5, 7-5 victory over their opponents to advance into the second round on Monday.
The Polish duo displayed exceptional skills and co-ordination to dump the Canadians in one hour and twenty-three minutes on their first meeting. They earned a straight set victory in front of the pessimist crowd to secure a second round spot at the Rexall Centre in Toronto, Canada.
Jans-Ignacik and Rosolska made a nervy entry as they lost their opening serve to trail 0-2. Although they snatched it back in the proceeding game, the duo lost remaining games and fell down 5-1. However, the Poles roared back by unleashing flurry of groundstrokes to reel off next six games in row and clinched the opening set with a 7-5 score line.
They produced a lower first serve share of 59 percent as compared to their opponents’ 78 percent but earned a plausible 68 percent win on it. The Poles saved a poor 25 percent breakpoints faced but capitalised on four out of six breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to help earn this success.
They carried their winning ways into the second set and bagged in entire serves until they took first blood at 4-3. Jans-Ignacik and Rosolska lost their serve in the proceeding game but broke their rivals serve again in the eleventh game to seal the set by winning seven games to five.
The Polish team again produced a poor first serve share of 56 percent as opposed to Fichman – Pelletier team’s 71 percent but registered an impressive 61 percent win on it. Furthermore, they saved one out of two breakpoints conceded but converted two out of six breakpoint chances to their advantage.
Up next for the Poles is the winner of the match between sixth seeded Chinese, Peng Shuai and Zheng Jie, and Taipei Belarusian pair of Chuang Chia-Jung and Olga Govortsova.
Romanian Israeli pair of Monica Niculescu and Shahar Peer will be joining the Poles in the second round. They made an epic comeback from a set down to register a 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 over the Russian Czech tandem of Alla Kudryavtseva and Klara Zakopalova in seventy minutes on another court.
Niculescu and Peer fended off five out of eight breakpoints faced and converted four out of nine breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to help earn this success.
