Jans/ Rosolska rally past Borwell/ Marosi into 2nd round – NURNBERGER Gastein Ladies 2011
Fourth seeded Austrians, Klaudia Jans and Alicja Rosolska required a third set to triumph over British Hungarian pair of Sarah Borwell and Katalin Marosi at the NURNBERGER Gastein Ladies, a clay court tournament held in Bad Gastein,
Austria. They registered a 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 victory over their rivals to advance into the second round at their home soil on Wednesday.
The Austrian duo showed exceptional skills and abilities along with an amazing co-ordination to battle past Borwell and Marosi in a three setter match in one hour and eleven minutes at this WTA Premier International event.
Jans and Rosolska made quick in-roads in the opening set as they earned the desiderated break in the very first game to take the lead. After the British Hungarian team held their serve in the third game, the Austrians went on savage
mode to reel off last four games in a row. They eventually sealed the opener with a breadstick in just few minutes. Jans and Rosolska clobbered a poor first serve share of 47 percent as compared to their opponents’ 61 percent but earned a tremendous 75 percent
win on it. To spice the set further, they faced zero breakpoint and converted three out of five breakpoint opportunities to their advantage.
Borwell and Marosi made a huge impact in the match by turning the tables around. Despite committing five double faults and equal first serve share of 69 percent, they cashed in two out of four breakpoint opportunities to their
advantage. The British Hungarian pair went berserk during the set and unleashed flurry of groundstrokes to reel off first four games in a row. They lost their serve in the sixth game but held on to their remaining serves to seal the equaliser by winning six
games to four.
The seeds got back on track in the deciding super tie-breaker. They clobbered an equal first serve share of 78 percent but registered an impressive 86 percent win on it. Furthermore, the Austrian pair dominated all over to eventually
bag the set with a 10-8 score line.
Up next for the Austrians is the unseeded Czech duo of Eva Birnerova and Lucie Hradecka who warded off late resistance against the Australian German pair of Daniella Dominikovic and Laura Siegemund and eventually won in straight
sets on Tuesday.
The Czechs saved five out of six breakpoints conceded and converted two out of six breakpoint chances to their advantage to clinch the opener with a 6-4 win.
The duo then exchanged a break in the second set to drag it into a tie-breaker. Birnerova and Hradecka dominated in it to seal the set with a 7-6(1) victory.
