January dates set for IPL player auctions
The IPL player auctions for the 2011 season will be held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 have announced in a statement.
The auctions for the fourth season of the Twenty20 competition are set to be the biggest since the inaugural auction was held before the staging of the IPL’s inaugural season, with the three-year contracts given to players at the inaugural action now expired.
Under the IPL rules, teams can only retain four of their current players, which means we’re set to see plenty of players changing their team colours for season four.
Another outcome of today’s meeting of the IPL’s governing council was the confirmation that there will be just eight teams competing in a total of 60 matches in next year’s IPL.
There had originally been plans to extend the competition from the eight teams that played the first three seasons to 10 sides for its fourth edition but the BCCI in October terminated the contracts of founding teams the Rajasthan Royals and the Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 due to issues surrounding their respective ownership.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 and the BCCI will attempt to solve their dispute through arbitration as per their contract terms after the franchise originally headed to the courts.
New franchise Kochi were also last month served with a termination notice by the BCCI due to alleged infighting within the franchise but have until November 27th to respond to the notice.
IPL 2011 is scheduled to begin on April 8th, less than a week after the end of the World Cup, and will run until May 22nd next year.
