Japan Open 2012: Tai Tzu Ying beats Eriko Hirose to grab Women’s Singles title – Badminton news
Chinese Taipei’s in-form player Tai Tzu Ying put up spectacular show and made her presence felt to the world by grabbing her first Super Series title in Women’s Singles category at Yonex Japan Open 2012 at Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday, September 23.
In the final clash, Tzu Ying overpowered her local opponent Eriko Hirose who gave a good fight but could not play dominating badminton in the ending points of the battle.
The World Number 12 Taipei shuttler, who participated in the tournament as a fifth seeded player, put up spectacular show and overpowered her lower ranked Japanese opponent in a hard-fought three-set contest while taking 57 minutes on court.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Hirose could not live up to the expectations of her huge home crowd as she failed to overpower her higher ranked Taipei opponent despite playing to her maximum potential.
In the first game, Hirose was in complete control of rallies from the opening points as she took the bird early and pushed her Taipei contestant on back foot without facing any considerable resistance.
Until the mid-game break, Tzu Ying could not bridge the huge gap and remained trailing until the end of first half.
After the break, Tzu Ying tried her best to put up strong show in the concluding phase of opening game but failed to show her brilliance and lost the game easily with a humiliating 9-21 score on the board.
However, the fifth seeded Tzu Ying powered her way back into the battle by putting up spectacular show of flawless badminton in the second set.
Tzu Ying remained in impressive control of rallies all the way to grab the second game with a one-sided 21-9 score on the board.
The deciding game was interesting for a few opening rallies but Tzu Ying took over the control without facing any trouble and remained dominating all the way to end it up with a crushing difference of 21-14.
Tzu Ying emerged as title winner as she defeated Hirose in the final battle in 57 minutes with a 9-21, 21-9 and 21-14 margin on the board.
