Japan Open Super Series: Akira Koga overpowers Tatsuya Watanabe in Men’s Singles qualifying round
Akira Koga, an emerging shuttler from Japan, showed a wonderful performance and advanced into the next stage in Men’s Singles qualifying round as he outplayed his compatriot Tatsuya Watanabe in an epic battle at Yonex Japan Open Super Series 2012 on Tuesday,
September 18, in Japan.
The spirited Akira showed a remarkable performance and employed all of his skills to overpower his in-form opponent in a spectacular fashion with a reasonable margin on score board.
Akira could not show his aggression in opening set but he found his flow and remained successful in grabbing the following sets and ended up this contest in three games by working to his maximum potential for 44 minutes.
In the meanwhile, Tatsuya showed aggression on court as he played with remarkable precision and won the opening game. However, he failed to remain consistent in his positive play and lost the match in rubber sets with a respectable score.
The first game went against the favour of Akira as his opponent played positive badminton and took a reasonable lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Akira tried his best to stop his challenger to put up superb show but failed to play dominating game and lost the set with a one-sided score of 14-21.
The second game was different when Akira showed his class by playing to his best speed and manipulated all loopholes of Tatsuya which helped him to take a comfortable lead until the break.
Akira continued his convincing run on court after the mid-game interval and did not show any mercy to Tatsuya at any stage and eventually won the second game with a remarkable 21-14 score on the board.
In the decider, Akira played in a commanding manner as he did not commit any mistake and set up a comfortable gap until the end of first half.
However, Tatsuya accelerated his speed and played positive badminton which helped him to make the score levelled at 15-15.
At this stage, Akira showed his brilliance as he executed fascinating shots from all corners of the court and took the set with a good margin of 21-16.
The in-form Akira won this Men’s Singles qualifying round battle in 44 minutes with a thrilling 14-21, 21-14 and 21-16 score on the board.
