Japan Open Women’s singles competition; Marion Bartoli breezes into the quarters
The French tennis player Marion Bartoli advanced into the quarter final round of the 2010 Japan Open Women’s singles competition after brushing aside Stefanie Voegele in a two setter clash on Wednesday. The final match score was
6-2, 6-2. The clash concluded in a time period of sixty nine minutes in Osaka.
Bartoli, who turned professional back in 2000, is currently ranked number sixteen in the world by the Women Tennis Association. She has so far captured a total of five WTA trophies in her career and was also a finalist at the grass
court Grand Slam tournament back in 2007. Bartoli is one of the most consistent players on the tour and has beaten two reigning top ranked contenders so far in her career. She got the better of Justine Henin in the final four at Wimbledon back in 2007 with
a score line of 1–6, 7–5, 6–1 and outclassed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia in the fourth round at the Australian Open last year in straight sets.The final match score was 6–1, 6–4.
After the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York, where she was seeded number thirteen and was upset in the round two by Virginie Razzano, Marion Bartoli has contested in three WTA events. She first travelled
all the way to Canada to take part in the 2010 Bell Challenge in Quebec where she was seeded number one to win the title. She hammered down Stephanie Foretz Gacon in the opening round 6–1, 6–1 however was bundled out by Rebecca Marino in the next round in
straight sets. Next, at the Toray Pan Pacific Open, the right hander after defeating a couple of important players retired in her third round clash against Victoria Azarenka as a result of illness.
Bartoli, who contested last week in Beijing, as a result of her today’s victory has joined the Australian tennis sensation Samantha Stosur who also made her way into the quarters after crushing Junri Namigata from Japan in straight
sets on Wednesday.
In the only unseeded battle of the day, the thirty three year old Tamarine Tanasugarn defeated her eighteen year old opponent Coco Vandeweghe in three sets on Wednesday. The final match score was 5-7, 7-5, 6-4. The clash concluded
in a time period of three hours and two minutes in Osaka.
Later in the day, the fourth seed Maria Kirilenko will take on Chang Kai-Chen.
