Japan Open latest: Andy Roddick triumphs in the opener, Marco Chiudinelli also advances
The second seed American, Andy Roddick who was also a semi finalist in Tokyo back in 2008 bundled out Tatsuma Ito in three sets for a spot in the second round of the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Competition on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-4, 6-3. The
clash concluded in a time period of eighty three minutes in Tokyo.
Andy extended his ATP World Tour best 2010 hard surface record to 35-8 after smashing a total of eight aces to get past Tatsuma, who converted one of three break point chances. The 28-year-old American has a record of 2-2 in the ATP World Tour finals in
2010, capturing his 29th crown of his professional life at the Sony Ericsson Open after defeating Tomas Berdych in Miami.
This has been Andy’s first championship since the year’s final major, the United States Open in New York. He dominated the court with the help of his strong serve and won the battle, contested at Ariake Colosseum with an ace, one of eight for the second
seed on Tuesday.
The American after the match while commenting on his game said, "It felt like a match coming off a long layoff. There were some good things, some inconsistent things. Since New York, I have been trying to get in physical shape and I have been able to do
that.”
Roddick, as a result of this victory will next take on the winner of the opening round clash between the French player Jeremy Chardy and Edouard Roger Vasselin.
Top seed Rafael Nadal, who received a first round bye, will also play his opening match against Santiago Giraldo of Colombia later in the day.
Meanwhile, world number seventy five Marco Chiudinelli overpowered eight seed Michael Llorda from France on the second occasion this season with a two-setter win on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-3, 6-0. The clash concluded in a time period of one
hour in Tokyo. Marco, who made his way into the quarter final round of the Mercedes Cup earlier in July previously defeated Llorda at the ABN AMBRO World Tennis championship back in February. He has a match record of 14-27 on the year.
Kei Nishikori, a wild card entrant from Japan dropped to a season record of 3-9 after falling to Viktor Troicki from Serbia in two sets on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-4, 6-2. The clash concluded in a time period of eighty two minutes in Tokyo. Viktor
fired a total of eight aces to topple the world number 121 for his 27th victory in 2010.
