  2. It was a kind of self satisfactory slogan and unpersuasive reason  by Japanese Imperialism for Asian people's  liberation against to colonization by Western countries.

    Actually Japan only needed oil and natural gas in Malaysia and Indonesia. They just considered Philippines as passing and supply points for military and marine going down to South.

    If battle of Leyte gulf was somehow different, the dream might be happened. Only God knows.

Before the outbreak of WWII Japan "liberated" several East Asian Countries from European colonialism.  Their reasoning and proported motive was to establish a Japan-East Asia co-prosperity sphere.  In fact all they accomplished was to replace Eugropean colonialism with Japanese colonialism.  The idea of mandatory teaching of this in the schools was to indoctrinate the local population that "we are doing this for your own good".
