Japan announces names of athletes to compete at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Daegu
Japan, who recently hosted the Asian Athletics Championships in Kobe and dominated the event for topping the tally table with eleven gold medals, announced their 50-member squad for the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Daegu. The event will commence
on August 27 and conclude on September 4.
The reason for Japan to take that long before announcing the names of the players constituting the contingent for the event to be held in Korea was because the Japan Association of Athletics Federation was interested in looking over and analysing the performance
of their athletes in the Asian Athletics Championships.
After bagging a total of 32 medals (11 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze) in the event, which marked the nation’s dominance over the athletics giants like China and Korea, the athletics authorities of the country have put together a squad that is most likely
to outdo their rivals on the field.
Selecting the final group of athletes for the Daegu event right after the Asian championships was a good idea, as it contained some added advantages for the country. For instance, knowing that their performance in the event will lead towards their selection
for the global event compelled the athletes to display their best performances in their respective disciplines.
Now, when the athletes have emerged in their meets, it will not only give them confidence which is crucial to go through the pressure brought by such huge global tournaments, but also will threaten their rivals who have not have had any big success recently
and are striving to assess their competing potential before the big event.
With about one and a half month still to go before the World Athletics Championships actually kicks-off, athletes who have competed in Asian championships and who are supposed to battle at Daegu as well, will find enough time to recover physically and overcome
the glitches that they feel are still needed to be taken care of.
One can only commend Japan Association of Athletics Federation’s idea to postpone the selection of athletes for the big event until they display their potential in the event at home, as this will certainly contribute towards yielding the desired results
for the country at the biannual athletics gala.
