Japan beats Brazil in three sets at FIVB World Cup -Volleyball news
The home team, Japanese women’s national volleyball team, had a match with the Brazilians on November 13 as part of the FIVB World Cup that is being hosted in Japan. The match between Japan and Brazil was played in Sapporo and it did not take long for the
home team to hand out a defeat to the Brazilian squad in a clean sweep.
It was an encouraging win for the Japanese squad as in all the 56 matches that Japan and Brazil have played, the Brazilians have been able to get a win in 45 of them. Not only that, the last 24 matches the the two teams have playedd, there have been 23 wins
for the Brazilians.
The first set of the match was fiercely competitive with both teams playing hard to earn a win. The teams stayed neck to neck in the entire opening set of the game but as the frame reached its close the Japanese were able to bag a win. The second set of
the match was balanced in the beginning but near the end the Japanese were able to get the upper hand in the game and secure themselves another win. The loss of the first two sets triggered the Brazilians into motion and they put up a good fight. However,
the effort came in too late and they were not able to take the match to a fourth set as the Japanese sealed the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 26-24, 25-19 and 25-23.
The coach of the Japanese team, Masayoshi Manabe, stated at the press conference: “We had a strong serve today and our defence and blocking was good as well. So both Yukiko Ebata and Saori Kimura were spiking well in tough situations.”
Brazilian team coach, Jose Roberto Guimaraes, spoke to reporters and said: “First I’d like to congratulate the Japanese team. The first set was very close, but in the second and third the level of play by Japan was better than us. Especially in first set,
Takeshita’s block… that was the big reason we couldn’t take the first set. If we could have taken the first, today’s match might have been much longer.”
The player that was able to score the most points in the entire match was the Japanese Saori Kimura with a total of 20 points while the Brazilian top scorer was Sheilla Castro with 13 points in all.
