Japan crushes Poland in a five-set thriller at the FIVB Women’s World Championship
Since Japan is the home of volleyball action, with the start of 16th FIVB Women’s World Championship the local fans have established high expectations for home-squad. The Japanese team has a great advantage of their people’s emotional support
during the championship and they are bound to perform well on the court. Japan opened the championship by taking on arch-rivals, Poland. The bruising encounter of two teams spanned over five sets and finally Japan proudly walked away with the tag of winner.

It was 19th meeting of two rivals on Friday afternoon. Japan made its mark and recorded 13th victory over Polish team in the opening match of FIVB World Championship. Japan built a score of 3-2 (26-28, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23, and 15-12)
and clinched success. Japan took a sweet revenge from Poland as they had defeated Japan in 2010 World Grand Prix Final round. Saori Kimura and Kaori Inoue played a vital role in Japan’s success, while Anna Weblinska and Malgorzata Glinka-Mogentale of Poland
did a great job in defending their position.

The home-team opened the match in great style. The fans raised encouraging slogans to push the team for better performance. Kimura was on serve and she supplied enough power to the ball converting it into a speed bomb. Likewise, Yoshie Takeshita put her
magic of spiking in the game and produced electrifying shots. The ball landed perfectly in Poland’s half and helped Japan score first three points of the game. Poland hit back and responded to Japanese strike with great temperament. They stretched their arms
and received the ball with great precision. Glinka-Mogentale threw the ball over the net and broke the silence of Polish fans. Poland achieved consecutive points and jumped to a score of 4-5.
On the other hand, Japan used Yukiko Ebata’s spike and raised the score to 8-5 at the first technical timeout. Japan continued with success and extended their lead to 12-7. Poland’s head coach called for a timeout and instructed the team to strengthen their

battle continued, while Poland bagged 28-26 victory over Japan in first set. It was a total mental game but Poland also had luck on their side.
Japan felt extremely bad about the loss of opening set but they were determined to recover the deficit. On contrary, Poland had a plan to keep up the same pace and kill Japan. They produced strong serves and smashed a 4-1 lead. The Polish side further added
points and took the lead to 8-5. The deadly spikes and killing aces helped them raise their score to 14-8, while Japan was totally disgusted with their performance. Kaczor of Poland offered good blocking to Japanese hits.
Somehow, Japan managed to steal points from Poland with the help of commanding spikes from Takeshita and Ebata. Japan turned the mood of the game and built a lead of 16-11. Afterwards, both sides traded lead regularly but Poland was lucky to finish the second
set at 25-21 and bagged another set victory.
The local fans suspiciously looked at each other faces and seemed unhappy with the current state of affair in the match. Nonetheless, they backed up their team and enticed them to make a come-back. Japan exhibited a marvellous play in the following set and
attacked the visitor team like hungry wolf. They clawed their way to victory in third set and pulled off 25-20 victory over Poland. The home-team kept the same momentum and levelled the game score by capturing fourth set at 25-23. Japan reached the height
of delight as Poland failed to secure the final set of the game. The hosts claimed final set by sending 15-12 and thrilled the fans with wonderful match-victory.
