Japan defeats Cuba by 3-0 in Montreaux Volleyball Masters Tournament final
The Cuban women’s volleyball team could not overcome Japan in the final of the Montreaux Volleyball Masters Tournament and ended up with a silver medal as the Japanese squad walked away with a clean sweep of 3-0.
The final of the tournament took place in Switzerland and saw Japan clinch an overwhelming win over their rivals. Japan did a quick job of finishing off the Cubans as the match took just an hour and nine minutes to reach its close. The Cubans could only
put up a decent fight in the first set of the match which was both thrilling and competitive. However, the second and the third sets were bagged easily by the Japanese. By the time that the match reached its close, the final set scores stood at the following
points: 26-24, 25-18 and 25-19.
The Japanese were able to put up an impressive attack as well as a solid defense. Not only that, the team coordination of the Japanese was a key factor in enabling them to earn the well deserved win. Despite the synchronization of the Japanese, the player
that stood most prominent in the match was Saori Sakoda. Sakoda was able to secure a total of 19 points for her team. On the Cuban side, Yanelis Santos kept her team fighting by adding 10 points of her own.
All through the tournament, the performance of the Cuban team had been impressive. They have been able to defeat Italy by 3-1. The time when the Cubans took on Holland, they emerged as victors after making a clean sweep over them. When the Cubans were up
against the United States, they were able to hand out a defeat to the U.S. by 3-1.
The first set of the match between the Cubans and the Japanese started off with both the teams going almost neck to neck with each other. The match remained close till the final stages. However, the Japanese were able to put on a spurt of speed and take
the opening set at 26-24.
Once the Japanese had asserted themselves over the Cubans, it was fairly easy for them to win the second as well as the third games at 25-18 and 25-19 respectively.
