Japan dominates Thailand in Pool C match: 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship
Thailand and the defending champions Japan hit the courts in a Pool C match of the 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship on Wednesday, September 21. Azadi Hall No.1 witnessed why the defending champions were favourites to grab the title again this
year as they executed a clean sweep against Thailand.
It did not take long for the match to conclude as the Japanese were able to win the preliminary round match by making a clean sweep over Thailand. The first set was dominated by the Japanese but the Thai stepped up in the second set to give their opponents
some challenge but Thailand could not pull off a win. The Japanese were able to smother the Thai in the third set and seal the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-20, 25-23 and 25-16.
The Japanese were able to outplay Thailand in almost every aspect of the match. Both their attack and defence worked in sync to keep the pressure on Thailand. Not only that, but the reception as well as service of the Japanese team was doing a commendable
job in keeping the Thai at bay.
The start of the first set of the game saw Thailand come out stronger than the Japanese as they were able to take the lead early on at 3-0. This was accomplished with the help of Thai player, Tatsuya Fukuzawa, who was able to perform two back to back attacking
strikes as well as one block. The Japanese were able to get a grip on their game early on as they stepped up their defence to stop the Thai hitters from increasing the gap. As a result, the first technical time out came with a Japanese lead at 8-3. The Thai
were in no mood to give up just yet and they were able to close in the gap and eventually reach the point where they were at a three point deficit with the Japanese. However, Thailand could not prevail and Japan bagged the opening set of the game at 25-20.
The loss of the first set of the game triggered the Thailand team to step up their game further and they were able to provide the Japanese with quite a challenge in the second set. The attack of the Thai players was putting up a challenge for the Japanese
to keep the lead and stay dominant. After a thrilling and intense struggle, Japan was able to finally bag the second set at25-23.
The third set saw both teams almost neck to neck for the initial stages but as the frame progressed Japan was able to take the lead and stretch it to the very end at 25-16.
