Japan wins against Tunisia by 3-0 in FIVB Volleyball Women´s Junior World Championship
The second round of the FIVB Volleyball Women´s Junior World Championship started on Tuesday, 26th July, with teams playing matches in both Lima as well as Trujillo. A Pool G match took place between the Japanese squad and Tunisia at the Eduardo
Dibos Gymnasium, Lima. By the time that the match reached its close, the Japanese side was celebrating their first win in the tournament by 3-0.
The Tunisian captain, Maroua Boughanmi, acknowledged the superior performance of the Japanese squad at the end of the match in the following words: “Congratulations to Japan. Their dig and attack was really good."
On the other hand, the Tunisian coach, Slim Ben Kaid, made the following statement: “Japan has a tradition of volleyball and Tunisia is just starting. We tried to do our best in the match, but we couldn’t do anything with their dig and their quick spikes."
Japan handed out a defeat to the Tunisians by winning three back to back sets. The Japanese completely dominated the Tunisian side in the first set of the match. Tunisia showed some improvement in the second set but it was not enough to pull together a win.
Similarly, the third set of the match was also fairly one sided as Japan sealed the deal at the following final set scores: 25-9, 25-15 and 25-14.
The Japanese captain Mari Horikawa, gave the following statement at the press conference after the match: “We had lost three matches, but after one day of resting, we were able to do a better job.”
Whereas the Japanese coach, Yasuhiro Fukuda, expressed himself by saying: “Resting was good for us, so we could improve our defense and attack.”
The Japanese did not waste any time taking the lead at the start of the opening set at 8-3. By the time that the set reached the second technical time out, the Japanese side was up by 11 points. After the two teams came back, Tunisia could not do much to
stop the Japanese from winning the first set of the game at 25-9.
Tunisia came into the second set with a new fighting spirit and kept the Japanese on their toes at the start. However, the Japanese did not waste much time to assert their dominance and got themselves the lead. When both teams entering the second technical
time out, Japan was ahead by eight points. It took a total of 24 minutes for the Japanese to end the set at 25-15.
Tunisia tried to shift the momentum in the third set of the game but Japan was too strong for the Tunisians and the set ended on Japanese terms at 25-14.
Both the Tunisian side and the Japanese now share the same overall record in the tournament of 1-3.
