Japanese GP: Rain or no rain, Red Bull adamant to dominate on Sunday
The Friday ended brilliantly for the Red Bull. The team came from the track pretty happy after the first two practices for the Japanese Grand Prix that is scheduled to be held this Sunday at the Suzuka track.
Both the drivers of the team, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber returned from the track after having two flawless practice sessions, finishing both at first and second place.
The great pace of their RB6 was evident on the track, as their rivals kept striving to catch up but all in vain. The twosome finished the day with a pleasing margin to have a peaceful sleep before they come back to the track tomorrow morning for third practice.
However, what makes Vettel happier is not the pace, rather it is the mileage of the car which he thinks is really impressive.
"We had a trouble-free Friday, so I think that's most important - especially on a track like this, where I feel I have to get into the rhythm with all those quick corners following each other," the German racer was glad to say.
At this part of the season a trouble-free weekend is necessary to at stay at the top. All the top three teams, the Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren are struggling very hard but still the dominance of Red Bull is becoming pretty evident now.
As both its drivers packed the day, the team claimed that their confidence and motivation has risen to new a level now which is surely going to help them give a flawless weekend. On the other hand, panic and eagerness of McLaren is clearly visible once again,
as both its drivers went off the track today wrecking their cars badly.
The Australian driver, Webber talked to the press following the practices. He was delighted to exclaim that he had a lot of laps on practise which makes him feel confident. Also, he added that the mileage of the car is better than he has expected and that
would be a big advantage for them on Sunday.
Currently Webber leads the Drivers’ Championship with his 202 points, whereas, his teammate Vettel stands at 4th place having 181 points under his belt so far. However, today Webber was slightly slower than the German in both the sessions.
Moreover, the track is also not much kind to Webber who is yet to have his first race win here, while Vettel is the conquered of the Japanese Grand Prix last year.
Though Webber now seems a little concerned, yet he was brave to state that this were the results from Friday and the most important thing is how the race unwraps on Sunday. Moreover, he added, "Obviously tomorrow's weather is potentially going to be a bit
mixed, but we've got some good information in the bank so it was a good day for us."
So far the weather forecast for this weekend assures heavy showers which are expected to begin in qualifying and would continue until the end of the race day.
When the team was asked about the impact of the rain, Vettel completely dismissed any worries saying that it would not affect them anyway.
The young driver added that the only difference the rain would make is that they would need to put on the rain jackets before they jump into their cars and also would put the rain tyres on. Otherwise, there is not much that the rain would do.
"I think the secret is not to panic too much, there is no reason why we shouldn't be competitive in the wet as well," Vettel concluded.
