Japanese Grand Prix: Mercedes GP's Preview Quotes
The 2010 season has been a tough one for Mercedes GP. After having grabbed both the Championships, the Constructors’ as well as the Drivers’ last season, the hype and expectations from the team have increased immensely. However, they haven't
been able to live up to them.
The season saw all the ingredients of a great team put together as the seven time world champion, Michael Schumacher made his return to the team and the guru of Formula One as well as the man behind the victory of both titles last year, Ross Brawn were tied
together. But still, the team failed to provide a competitive car while the driver failed to produce the best out of what he was given, thus cruising through the season with much disappointment.
Now, with only four more races to go this season, the team is adamant to bag as many points as they can and enter the next season with a positive note. The sixteenth Grand Prix of 2010 is to unfold next weekend at Suzuka, Japan.
As the Formula One caravan moves for this next race, a sports website talked to Mercedes GP team drivers and boss, probing their fears and aspirations for the upcoming race.
Nico Rosberg:
He had a good race at the track last year. Although, the qualifying round was poor, giving him 11th place on the grid, yet on the final race day, he pulled hard to claim 5th position.
Now, as the driver heads for Suzuka, he expressed his feelings saying, "Suzuka is a great race track and personally I think it is one of the best on the calendar, along with Spa. It is technically challenging, really quick and just a real drivers' circuit
which demands the best out of you and the car.”
Rosberg, currently, stands at seventh place in the Drivers’ Championship having bagged one hundred and twenty two points so far. He hopes to pack up the season at sixth place for which he is striving really hard and hopes to bag a few more points at the
next round.
Michael Schumacher:
The other team driver, though had a rough 2010 season, still believes that the last four races would be better than the previous ones. Schumacher has just scored 46 points all through the season and has struggled hard to occupy the tenth place.
Since he had been out of the sport for three years, he now says that he is excited to go to Japan after a long time. "Suzuka was always one of my favorite circuits of the year as driving the track is simply sensational in parts,” said the German.
He further added, “I am heading to Japan with some good memories in mind as the track in Suzuka was the scene of some great races for me. Obviously, I hope that we can add more and I am definitely up for the challenge. I am sure we will try to get the maximum
out of our weekend."
Despite the disappointing season, Schumacher has not lost hope and is willing to keep fighting till the end. He is determined to stay in the sport for next season as well. The 41 year old believes that the bad patch has gone and 2011 will be a new start
for him.
Ross Brawn:
The team principal of Mercedes GP is quite vocal in support of the struggling driver, Schumacher, saying that he still has the same charisma and skills.
Brawn believes that only a little more time is required and the previous wonders of the racing icon would be seen on the track once again.
While talking about the next race, he said, "Suzka has hosted some great races over the years and it is one of those tracks that are considered a real classic by drivers and fans alike.”
He concluded saying, “The last three races have been particularly good for us with regards to our work at the track as a team and our run of points finishes so we will be aiming to continue this trend throughout the final four races."
