I have three japanese maple, all which seems to be frying up, parts of leafs are dead, dried, etc and one of the have white looking sap growin out of it. They are 5 months old and are a foot+ high. They have around 6-8 hours of direct sunlight and around 1-2 cups of water per day. Also I live in zone 5, warm-hot weather right now. The pots are 6'' high and 5'' across.

Should I repot, give more water, less sunlight??? Need any advice. The soil mixture is 1 part potting soil and 1 part moss for tress.

  1. Try more water and partial sun.I have several of them growing under large pine trees. They only get a couple of hours a day of direct sunlight.I have one that is twenty years old and has never been in direct sunlight.

  2. you are drowning the little trees

moist is not supposed to be soggy

put them in light shade and reduce the water that you are giving them.

    protect from west(afternoon) sun.

what brand potting soil, what moss?

i would recommend repotting them into miracle gro potting soil,

it has good fertility and texture

    good luck

  3. You might need to water them a little more in this heat.

    Plant Needs

    Zone: 5 to 8

Light: Partial shade to full sun

    Moisture: Moist, to dry

    Soil Type: Sandy or loam

    pH Range: 3.7 to 6.5

    Planting Notes

Performs best with rich, moist soil conditions in partially shaded locations. Plant in soil that is well-drained, yet moist.

    Care

Keep soil moist during summer. During dry periods, water deeply by placing hose at base of plant and letting water trickle into the soil.  Mulch around base of tree in summer.
