Japanese Smart Falcon, seeking his tenth straight win at the Dubai World Cup night on 31st March at the Meydan
The seven-year-old chestnut horse, Smart Falcon, trained by Ken Kosaki, has the Group 1 $10 million Dubai World Cup, on 31st March at the Meydan, set as his next target.
The one mile and two and a half furlong race on dirt is for the participation of horses four-year-old and above.
Smart Falcon started off his new season, posting a straight ninth win in graded stakes after which his connections said the following:
Take said:
"His condition was better than the previous start in the Tokyo Daishoten. This was his first time he ran at Kawasaki but I didn't worry because he had been sent to many racecourses all over Japan. I think his ability is already world class so I want to go
to the Dubai World Cup with him”.
"He has won nine consecutive graded races which is great. We will go to Dubai if they will invite us”.
Trainer Kosaki added:
"I was relieved because his race was very good and his condition has gotten back into form”.
The flawless performance that Smart Falcon has kept up with throughout the season and has maintained through the new season too, has stretched his winning streak to nine.
This passion for racing and not losing might as well make his country win the $10 million race twice in a row.
In 2011, the race was won by Victoire Pisa, trained by Katsuhiko Sumii and ridden by Mirco Demuro.
Japan had never won the Dubai World Cup before this or this year. It has all the chances of winning the Cup again, only if Smart Falcon does not let go of the grip he had through his last nine starts.
On his way to the ninth victory, Smart Falcon also set a track record by racing through the field in two minutes and 10.70 seconds.
Getting such talent to contest for a race this grand and significant will at least break away the monotony and monopoly that the UAE and the US have as far as the winners ever since 1998 are concerned.
A straight tenth victory, that also at the 2012 Dubai World Cup, through Smart Falcon’s second start this year sounds just too good to be true since he will have some tricky horses to contest against on the track.
