  1. If you just want to teach English in Japan, then all you need is to be a (near) native speaker of English and have a BA to get a visa. It's better to be younger (under 30 or 40) as well. There are many schools as well as a government program (JET). Search around on the internet for the pros/cons of the schools.

Another alternative is to teach in English at an international school, whether it's DOD (department of defense, on military bases), a Christian school, or some other private school. For those, the requirements vary. Having a full teaching degree from your home country would be best for having less does not exclude you from teaching. For example, I went to a Christian school in Japan run by Americans and only high school teachers needed to be fully licensed. Elementary teachers needed a BA and you only needed a high school diploma to teach Kindergarten or pre-school. This school has since closed. If you have a master's, you could teach English at Japanese universities.
