Hello, I am doing my second year of Japanese and I have a test coming up. As revision my teacher put up some things I should revise on:

Can anyone tell me how to say (In Japanese):

Last year

Next year

This year

Is "My grandpa" osoko?

And how do I say: The dog is beneath the table?

Would it be:

inu shita ni tsukue imasu

How do I say: Today's weather will be fine

Would it be:

hare deshyo kyou

If I'm wrong please tell me.

Thank you, all answers are appreciated.

  1. Last year

    => 去年 (kyonen) or

    => 昨年 (sakunen)

    Next year

    => 来年 (rainen)

    This year

    => 今年 (kotoshi)

    "My grandpa"

    => 私の祖父 (watashi no sofu)

    "The dog is beneath the table"

    => 犬はテーブル*の下にいます (inu wa tehburu* no shita ni imasu)

    "Today's weather will be fine"

    => 今日は晴れでしょう (kyou wa hare deshou)** or

    => 今日の天気は晴れでしょう (kyou no tenki wa hare deshou)**

    * Of course you can use tsukue here.

    ** Japanese newscasters will always say でしょう (deshou) on weather forecasts. (Mainly to natural events where humans do not have complete control of.)

  2. Last year: kyonen去年

    Next year: rainen来年

    This year: kotoshi今年

    Grandfather: sofu祖父 - osoko is not a word

    The dog is beneath the table: inu wa tsukue no shita ni imasu 犬は机の下にいます(wa indicating that the dog is the focus of the sentence. tsukue no shita means the underneath of the table. ni is at, in or on. Tsukue, actually, means desk - if you were going for just plain table, I would use 'teeburu'テーブル)

    Today's weather will be fine: kyou wa ii tenki ni narimasu (Today will become good weather)

    Also, sennen does not mean last year. The way it is written there, it means 'former years'

    I hope this helps. Ganbatte ne ^_^

  3. Hello

    Last year - sennen

    Next year - rainen

    This year - kotoshi

    My grandpa - sofu そふ/祖父 (my grandmother - sobo そぼ/祖母)

    The dog is beneath the table - teeburu no shita ni, inu ga imasu

    The dog is beneath the desk - tsukue no shita ni, inu ga imasu

    Today, the weather will be fine - kyou, tenki wa hare desu

    Hope this helps,

    Beau
