  1. Furikake is any dry Japanese condiment meant to be sprinkled on top of rice. It typically consists of a mixture of dried and ground fish, sesame seeds, chopped seaweed, sugar, salt, and monosodium glutamate. Furikake is often brightly coloured, and flaky. Because of this (and the prevalence of fish on the packaging) westerners may mistake it for flaked goldfish food!

What you had  in the snack mix was the most basic: Shirakiku Ari Nori Furikake

  2. google it...i never heard of it

  3. Did they look like this?

    http://www.amazon.com/Nishi-Japanese-a*s...

You can find them as oriental crackers or Japanese rice crackers, usually in the Asian aisle of supermarkets and definitely at Asian supermarkets. If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they also have them.

Little snacks like that are called otsumami and there are so many kinds. Example:

  4. Could be:

    arare

    ajigonomi (most likely)

Try the オリーブの花 (Olive no Hana) brand.

  5. It's called arare - it's basically a mixture of different types of rice crackers, most coated with soy sauce, or with speckles of seaweed.

You can find large bags of the stuff at any Asian market, in the snack food aisle.
