i'm looking for some crafts i can do with teens that can be fun and help teach about japan.

Have them make paper kimonos, or teach them how to write haiku or make sumi ink paintings.

The most obvious is oragami.  There are some Japanese papers that can be used to cover things.  There is Japanese book binding.  There are also wooden eggs that can be covered with Japanese paper.  Sumi brush painting is another idea.
