I recently went to Japan where I bought a dvd. When I returned to the states I bought two more japanese dvds over the internet. I found out later, to my dismay, that the first dvd doesn't work in my player. I was wondering if anyone knows of a dvd player that will play dvds made in America and dvds made in Japan?

  1. You need a region-free DVD player.

Some players can be modded by the user to enable this, or some models allow you to enable this feature using secret combinations of buttons n the remote.

If you're not opposed to buying a new DVD player, look into Oppo Digital.  Their line of upscaling DVD players are considered top of the line, yet aren't very expensive, play just about any format you can think of (including memory cards!) can convert between PAL and NTSC (just in case you go DVD shopping in Europe) and of course, are easily made region free.

  2. you CAN eather mod your ps2...or any game system that can play a dvd or buy a japanese dvd player^^

  3. I've noticed that really cheap dvd players with brandnames that you have never heard of usually aren't coded and play dvds from around the world.

  4. Toshiba seem to always sell region free players. They have some great cheap models also.
