Japanese girls march into semi-finals of the Austrian International Challenge 2012
The Japan’s women singles and doubles teams proved their worth in the Austrian International Challenge 2012 by earning their spot in all semi-finals, going to be held today.
The singles shuttlers of Japan Shizuka Uchida and Sayaka Takahashi have reserved their right to be in the semi-finals while the Japanese duo Asumi Kugo- Megumi Yokoyama and the second pair Yuriko Miki-Koharu Yonemoto will contest in doubles semi-finals.
The singles shuttler Shizuka Uchida will start the expedition by playing first semi-final against top seeded Hong Kong’s Tsz Ka Chan.
Earlier, Shizuka overpowered her rival Aiying Xing of Singapore in yesterday’s quarter-final. The Japanese girl bounced back after losing first set to Aiying Xing with 9-21 score and sealed the victory by winning next two sets with a decisive score of 21-19
and 21-19.
The second Japanese singles semi-finalist is Sayaka Takahashi who will lock horns with her Turkish rival Neslihan Yigit today.
The Japanese singles shuttler earned the opportunity by nailing Ragna Ingolfsdottir in quarter-final. Sayaka did not give her opponent even a single chance to rise on her toes and Ragna had to bow down with score sheets showing final score of 21-7 and 21-18.
The women’s doubles teams of Japan also put a great show yesterday and the first duo Asumi Kugo- Megumi Yokoyama outclassed the top seeded Dutch pair Lotte Jonathans-Paulien Van Dooremalen in quarter-final.
The Japanese couple was class act in registering the final score of 21-13 and 21-15 on the board.
The duo is now all set to test their skills against Malaysia’s h*i Ern Ng-h*i Lin Ng in a tussle for the finals.
The second pair from Japan to make it to the semi-final is Yuriko Miki-Koharu Yonemoto who won the honour with their gusty performance against Canadian opponent duo Nicole Grether-Charmaine Reid in quarter-final.
The Japanese pair clinched the victory with a notable margin of 21-17 and 21-14.
The duo Yuriko Miki-Koharu Yonemoto will take on Eva Lee-Paula Lynn Obanana of U.S.A in the second semi-final today.
Japan has now fair chances of dominating the women’s department in Austrian International Challenge as its female shuttlers ensure their presence in every semi-final of the doubles and singles category.
