Japanese help, describing skills and talents.?

Question

I'm having trouble with that little area.

my book gives examples of

jouzuna

tokuina

umai

hetna

nigatena

but it's not specific.

example:

yamadasan wa suki- ga jouzu desu.

yamada is good at skiiing,

gorufu ga tokui desu

im good at golfing

ani wa uta ga heta desu.

my brother is bad at singing.

the example got me confused. why is that the thing they are good at is not a verb? :0 im lost please explain this to...hope i explained enough for you to understand

Jyouzu/tokui can be interchanged.

Umai can mean skillful.

Heta is poor at, not good, underhand

Nigate na is also poor at.

For best case, just use jyouzu and heta until you fully understand each context.
