Japanese "symbol" for... i think courage?

I have this shirt from japan. the person who bought it for me said the character on the back represents, i think it was courage or no fear..? it is a teddy-bear with a green monster on top of it. can someone explain exactly what it is and what it means?

I would say its a manga character, not a Kanji symbol.
