Japanese shuttlers dash the hopes of German team in the Sudirman Cup 2011 – Badminton News
The hopes of the German team to reach the quarterfinal of the Sudirman Cup were dashed by Japanese shuttlers in a group game which the Japanese won by a 4-1 final score.
In the Mixed Doubles match, Japan’s Shintaro Ikeda – Reiko Shiota started the game in a shaky way against Michael Fuchs – Birgit Michels and lost the opening set by a 17-21 margin. However, the Japanese couple fought back in the match and clinched the remaining
two games with a margin of 22-20 and 21-18.
Kenichi Tago of Japan showed no mercy to Marc Zwiebler of Germany in the Men’s Singles fight. The Japanese was playing a flawless game and finished the straight-set match by a big margin of 21-11 and 21-18.
In the Men’s Doubles match, Noriyasu Hirata – Hirokatsu Hashimoto of Japan defeated Ingo Kindervater – Johannes Schoettler in a rubber-set match. The Japanese pair won the first set by playing an attacking game, which spared no chance for the opponent to
control the rallies. The score of the first set was 21-16.
However, the German pair made a strong come back and won the second game by a decent margin of 21-16. In the final set, the Japanese controlled the rallies throughout the set and grabbed it by a difference of 21-15.
Juliane Schenk, the top seed of Germany in Women’s Singles, had to work very hard against Eriko Hirose of Japan in a three-set fight of 74 minutes. The Japanese made many mistakes in the opening set and lost it by a margin of 15-21.
However, in the second set Eriko came back in the game and won it by 21-18. In the third set, Juliane worked really hard and managed to win the set by a small margin of 21-19.
In the Women’s Doubles category, Satoko Suetsuna – Miyuki Maeda of Japan played a tremendous game against the German couple of Sandra Marinello – Birgit Michels and finished the match in straight games.
In the opening set, the Japanese pair remained far ahead of the German duo and won it by a 21-16 score. In the following set, the German shuttlers tried to play well but the Japanese were superb. Satoko – Miyuki won the second game 21-11.
