Japanese variation of the Kau Cim sticks?

I've benn trying to look into the fortune-telling method I always see when I'm watching anime, and the only thing I found so far is the Kau Cim sticks, but I can't help this feeling that it isn't exactly what I'm looking for.

In the animes the fortune-tellers hold a big pile of incense sticks in their hands, not in a cylinder, and it's the fortune teller than manipulates the sticks, not the querent...

  1. It is a method of fortune-telling called Ekisen (易占), and the method using sticks is called Bokuzei (卜筮). Fortune-tellers are called Ekisha (易者).

    They use 50 slim bamboo sticks called Zeichiku (筮竹) and four-sided stocks called Sangi (算木).
