Japan’s Kazushi Yamada trounces China’s Zhengming Wang in the All England Open Premier Super Series
Japan’s Kazushi Yamada continues his impressive run in the All England Open Premier Super Series 2011, by beating China’s emerging men’s singles player, Zhengming Wang, in the round-of-16, at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England today. Kazushi
consumed 56 minutes to chuck out the Chinese in a thrilling three-set match. In the quarterfinal, the Japanese will be fighting against Marc Zwiebler of Germany, who crushed the ruling World Champion and sixth seed Chinese player, Chen Jin, in the previous
round.
In the first round of the event, Kazushi defeated the former World and Olympic Champion, Taufiq Hidayat of Indonesia. And in the round-of-16, the Japanese shuttler stretched his winning streak by beating Zhengming, who was one of the major contenders for
the title. The opening set was an absolute thriller as both players put up a great show in a packed indoor arena in Birmingham.
The score was quite close as both sides were playing a top quality game with maximum speed and accuracy. Kazushi was the leader in the opening half of the first set as he took a decent lead of 11-8. He remained on track after the break and won the opening
set by a reasonable margin of 21-15, by spending 17 minutes in the court.
The second set was more exciting as no player could set a clear lead till the one-minute interval where the Chinese was slightly ahead at 11-10. Zhengming worked very hard to control the game against the impressive Japanese, who was playing at his best.
The Chinese managed to take a decent lead of 18-15 and maintained it to win the second game by a tight score of 21-19, by consuming 21 minutes in the court.
In the third and final set of the match, both players employed every skill they had to win the match. The score remained quite close till the break where Kazushi was leading at 11-9. After the interval, the Japanese stretched the lead and reached at 18-12.
Zhengming scored four consecutive points and reduced the gap at 16-18. But the shuttler of Japan played some wonderful strokes on this crucial stage and scored the remaining three points in a row to win the set by a 21-16 margin, in 18 minutes. The concluding
score of this 56-minute match was, 21-15, 19-21 and 21-16.
