Japan’s Massy on the rise, eyeing greater heights!
On the 24th of June 2012, Japan’s Masahiro “Massy” Kuramoto claimed the European Senior Tour victory in the Van Lanschot Senior Open. This was Kuramoto’s second senior tour victory.
The first one was two years ago, when he won the Handa Cup Senior Masters in Japan.
The tournament went on for three days and on the third day, the weather conditions were not favourable for the golfers at Royal Haagsche Golf & Country Club.
Nevertheless 56-year-old was able to manage the lowest round of the week, an amazing closing 69. After the tournament, Kuramoto, in an interview, said, “I love links golf but this was an up and down links course”.
Kuramoto himself was surprised by the course. “When I came to Holland I thought it was flat. It was so tough playing in this wind but I’m so small, I think the wind blows straight over my head,” Kuramoto added.
About his win, he said, “I’m delighted to win though. It means a lot to me as my exemption ran out this year”.
In 1982, Kuramoto took part in the Open Championship and finished tied fourth at Royal Troon. He used all that experience from the match 30 years ago to win the tournament.
Kuramoto was able to finish two shorts clear of Andrew Oldcorn of Netherland, who was second in the tournament. This was the second tournament in a row that Oldcorn finished with the second position.
John Harrison of England and Juan Quiros of Spain were tied for the third position and Jeff Hall of England and Chris Williams of South Africa were tied for the fifth place.
Masahiro Kuramoto turned professional in the year 1981. Kuramoto has 36 professional wins. Out of these 36 wins, 30 came on Japan Golf Tour and 2 came on the Seniors Tour.
Kuramoto ranks fifth on the career list. He is also ranked as the seventh on the career money list. Kuramoto has earnings of about ¥1 billion that puts him in the top-10 richest golfers.
For any golfer, these are enough achievements for one life time. On the contrary, it seems like Kuramoto is just getting started and is determined to achieve higher milestones.
