Jaque Fourie to skip Super Rugby 2012 due to stay in Japan – Rugby News
South African rugby player, Jaque Fourie, is reportedly going to miss the forthcoming season of Super Rugby due to his extended stay in Japan. The veteran Springbok represented the Stormers in the last Super Rugby season but avoided renewing his contract
with South African Rugby Union after the end of last season of championship. WP Rugby Managing Director Rob Wagner told the media on December 2 that player has decided to stay in Japan and will not be participating in Super Rugby 2012.
Fourie made his international debut in 2003 while playing a Rugby World Cup 2003 match against Uruguay, in Perth. He participated in another game as a full time player against Georgia while played two matches more as a reserve player.
He became a permanent player of Springboks side in 2004 and played number of matches during that year. His affiliation with the side remained quite successful as the Boks won many a games during that season.
Furthermore, he was the part of team that won Webb Ellis Trophy for South Africa in 2007. He scored a wonderful try for his team during the championship deciding match against England in Paris. The player has also got the honour of playing more than 50 tests
in his career. He actually has participated in 68 matches for South Africa and scored 160 points.
Meanwhile, he has also played 30 Super Rugby matches for Stormers in 2010 and 2011.
He scored a great try during a match against British and Irish Lions which was later on declared the Best Try for the Year of 2010.
Talking about the future of Jaque Fourie, Rob Wagner said that, “Fourie's two year contract with WP Rugby ended after the 2011 Currie Cup and despite efforts to secure his services, Jaque has opted not to return. The deal is simply too big for us as a South
African franchise. While we are obviously disappointed, Jaque made a huge impact during his stay in the Cape and we wish him well with his career in Japan.”
Super Rugby 2012 is starting off in February with the opening match between two New Zealander derbies.
