South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis became the fourth cricketer in history to have scored 13,000 Test runs, during the on-going 5-day match against the touring Kiwis, being played at Newlands, Cape Town.
Having won the toss, the Black Caps decided to bat first, only to be humiliated (all out for 45) by the Proteas pace attack. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528 respectively.
The Proteas innings on the other hand, saw a century by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 (13,378).
Speaking about the veteran, his skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 said, “Jacques put South African cricket on the map in a big way and he’ll go down as an all-time great.
“We’re all really happy he is finally getting the credit he deserves. I’m running out of things to say about him as he’s such an incredible player.”
Since his debut (Test in 1995 and ODI in 1996), Kallis has been a vital performer for the Proteas, both with bat and ball. Having played over 150 Tests and 300 ODIs, the all-rounder has more than respectable averages under his belt (over 55 in Tests and 45 in ODIs).
Speaking about his retirement plans, the Cape Town-born cricketer said, “I make sure I put in the hard work behind the scenes and I am still motivahttp://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472ed to win games. I haven’t thought about retirement but I do think about the management of my game, like possibly missing some one-day games to prolong my Test career.”
After defeating the touring Kiwis 2-1 in the 3-match T20 series, the Proteas are now dominating in the 2-match Test series, before they move on to the 3-match One Day leg of the tour. The South Africans currently rule the Test rankings and with world class players like Kallis in the side, they have strong chances of extending their lead on the charts.
