Jared Gilliland snares Boys 400m IM gold – State Teams SC Championships
Jared Gilliland of QLD snared gold medal of the Boys 400m Individual Medley (IM) in 16-17 years age group on concluding day of the 2012 State Teams Short Course Championships at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Monday, October 8.
Gilliland lived up to the expectations of his opponents in the distant IM event and occupied the podium for gold medal.
He showed no mercy to his opponents in the 16-lap discipline and transpired on the finishing wall for gold medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 16.90 seconds.
Gilliland was traced by Tomas Elliott of NSW, who was considerably slower from his former finisher and emerged on the wall as second position holder by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 23.81 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Liam Fisk of VIC, who stayed one and a half body length behind and secured bronze medal by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 25.26 seconds.
Fisk was chased by Jake Baggaley of NSW, who was nearly 1.80 seconds slower and settled on the wall as fourth fastest spot by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 27.08 seconds.
The 16-year-old Baggaley was trailed by Isaac Jones of VIC, who was two and a half body length behind and surfaced on the wall as fifth best finisher by reporting an effort of 4 minutes and 29.55 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was secured by Nicholas Brown of WA, who remained almost seven seconds apart and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 36.34 seconds.
Brown was followed by Max Pendall of QLD, who was 0.61 seconds slower from overpowering his former finisher and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 36.95 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Jacson Robb of WA, who was unable to surpass any of his rivals and posted a time of 4 minutes and 45.53 seconds.
In addition, Gilliland expressed happiness over his victory in the 400m discipline and stressed that he would try his best to dominate the same at upcoming swimming competitions.
