Jarkko Nieminen advances to Thailand Open final
Jarkko Nieminen from Finland has successfully made his way into his first final of the season with a two setter victory over his German tennis foe, Benjamin Becker in the semi final of the PTT Thailand Open Men’s competition on Saturday. The final match
score was 6-3, 6-2.
The unseeded Jarkko, who is currently ranked number 60 took charge versus his 65th ranked opponent and won the match comfortably in the end. The clash concluded in a time of 1 hour and 5 minutes in Bangkok.
Seeking his second ATP Tour trophy in his career, the 29-year-old Jarkko dominated with the help of his sharp ground strokes and blasted a total of 76% of his opening serves on Saturday.
Nieminen, while commenting on his victory over the German said that he is extremely glad with his performance and is really happy to make it to the finals of an ATP World Tour after a long time. The player opined that he will definitely try his level best
to win the title battle on Sunday.
"I feel great. I have not been in any final for a while, the last time was in Sydney 2009,” declared the Finn after confirming his final berth at Thailand Open 2010 in Bangkok.
Jarkko has not missed a single set on his way to the final match. He made his way into the finals after getting the better of seventh seed Viktor Troicki in the second round as well as third seed Jurgen Melzer in the round of sixteen in Bangkok.
The Finn is quite satisfied with his current form and is looking forward to continue it in the finals.
"I have played great tennis. Just looking forward to the final," he added on Saturday.
His likely opponent in the title battle would be top ranked tennis player Rafael Nadal from Spain who will contest in his semi-final match against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez on Saturday.
Rafael is fresh from capturing the United States Open crown along with completing his career Grand Slam in New York.
"Nadal, he is obviously the best player this year. He has won the last three Grand Slams everybody knows that. It will be a big challenge. I hope I can challenge him in the final,” said Nieminen.
